As the development of biotechnology, there is a series of disputes following. It is known to all that the properties are decided by genes. To a certain extent, if we can modify the specific gene, the property which is controlled by this gene will appear in a different way. For example, if someone modify the gene which controls the size of eyes, then he or she may have bigger eyes. That sounds interesting. However, this new technology have not been accepted by everyone.
Personally, I can only accept that genetic selection is used in the medical specialty. If we can cure the disease, especially hereditary disease, it will make a significant contribution to medical science. Many families will get ride of infirmity of generations. Moreover, it may help treat the patients who suffer from rare illnesses. Nevertheless, I do not agree that genetic selection can be widespread used in every field. If someone just want to utilize it to fulfil his or her private wants, it is kind of unfair to others. For instance, many people would like to change their appearance, height, build and so forth via modifying the gene. Those people may benefit from these changes, and it is definitely unfair to those who do not modify their genes.
With the rapid pace of science and people’s increasingly open-minded, we can not speculate how the circumstances will be in the future. Maybe one day we can balance the relationship between bioethics and people’s desire.
Everyone has a dream to be perfect, that is why people want to make use of genetic selection. I do agree with you that genetic selection will be benifit for us in some certain extent. Towards this controversial arguement, we need to make contro of it!
ReplyDeleteDue to the experience of seeing many movies about genetic selection, I think that it is not a suitable way to change people's genes. As you said, people's desires can accelerate the development of genetic selection. However, people's desires are endless. What can we do to stop it?
ReplyDeleteYeah, as you have said, genetic selection is a heat topic nowadays and definately it will bring a lot of changes to our sociaty in the futher. Of cause, genetic selection is unfair to other people. However, I still think that it will be widely accepted in the future. Just like pastic surgenry, right? What we can do is welcome it and try to maximize its advantages. I still believe that the advantages of every new thing are much more than its disadvantages.^_^
