Organ donation is when a person living or dead allows his or her organs to be used in another person.It seems that organ donation is a signficiant medical treatment that can save many people' lives. But the fact is that some countries do not allow organ and tissue donation, or they allow only some organs, some tissues and not allow others. There may be some religionaary reason. However, in those countires which allow organ donation and organ transplant, there are still some problems.
The first problem is the need of organ is much larger than the source. There are cases where say maybe a thousand people need a kidney but there's only fifty kidneys. Who is going to get it? Should the kidney go to the sickest person but who might die? Should it go to the oldest person? Should it go to the youngest person? Or should it go to the richest person? How do you decide? What's a fair way to decide?
The second problem is the fee of treatment. In China, it cost 100 thousand for a liver transplant. Although the organ is free from the organ doner, the payment for the organ storage and operation cannot be ignored. Many patients made a great effort to get a organ available, and finally find that they do not have enough money for the operation.
As a medical tourism for saving people's lives, organ donation has a long way to go to be more practical.

There is no doubt that organ transplant really help a lot with many diseases. However, the high fee and the lack of source make some patients lose the chance to be cured. In my opinion, the government should provide allowance to the those patients who cannot afford the high medical fee.
ReplyDeleteIt is quite a interesting topic!! Yes, organ transplant has many problems in both ethic and economy. However, no matter how controversial this is, it cannot be prohibited. We need to try our best to improve it instead of banning it for fear of the problems. I believe one day, people are more willing to donate their organs to help people in need and the technique will be more advanced and organ transplant operate must be as common and cheap as graft.

ReplyDeleteYes, organ transplants are not commonly used in medical area because there aren't enough organs available and because of techniques limitation. However, it is a good way to save many people's lives. I think one day in the future, scientists may find a resolution to all these problems and make organ transplants realistic and common.
