Don’t you think we are sometimes stupid for only pursuing high marks in exams? There is something more important and practical than the marks.
Last week when responding how to improve arts in China, I came up with an idea that Ministry of Education in China could put forward a policy to force students to sit for an arts exam as a part of the college entrance examination. The reason is that in my opinion, Chinese students always do a lot of things only for high marks. If it is compulsory and can make sense in the college entrance examination, all the students will pay attention to it and through this way, it can develop some talented people’s potential in arts to the fullest.
Later, I thought it over again. This might be a practical way, but it made me feel sorrowful. I used to be one of the billions of Chinese students who study hard to strive for the high marks. In this process, we put a lot of emphasis on the tests themselves but ignoring their purpose. Sometimes we learn the knowledge by rote rather than learn it by heart to apply it into practice. This kind of action is really, really silly. High marks can help us enter a good university, but high marks cannot give us a bright future. It is the knowledge we have learnt by heart and skills we really acquired make sense! So we should learn from it, we are learning something more than just for examinations!

High marks are not the most improtant.Exams just help us learn more about what we have learn and improve ourselves. I think we just need to learn the skill to learn by ourselves rather than go after high marks.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree that the system of education in China need some changes. Most students just focus on the marks of the main courses, such as math, Chinese, English and so forth. Some senior high school even cancel the music and arts class. We should pay more attention to arts indeed, but to make all the students attend the art examination is impracticable. Maybe we will come up with a better solution later.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you dear that our educational system is really in need of improvements and that it is a good idea for us to sit for art exams. However, I think we can also gain a lot from our present education. Though it is boring to some extent, we learn a lot of knowledge and through those so called sufferings we know the meaning of perseverance. So let’s expect the better education system but enjoy the traditional one we have now.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I think that what we learnt will make sense if we try to apply them to our daliy life. Exams is just a tool but not the destination.
ReplyDeletewhen it comes to education system in china, i care more about the fair distribution of educaiton resourses.it seems that it is the only practical way in current china to enroll college students by that much-condemed NCEE.
ReplyDeletei think in china, educational system will be better. maybe in the future, universities also have their own power to choose the students they like.
ReplyDeleteStudents have their rights to choose what they are interested in, likewise the universities have the rights to pick the students they like.
ReplyDeleteOnce coming to Singapore, I found the students here are very different when compared with students in China. In our hometowm, high mark is the criterion of good student, whereas this lead to an unhealthy influence on students. We do need to change our mind and develop our potential in other fields.
ReplyDeletewhen it comes to the education system, there is always some critical. yeah there are a lot of problems in the systerm. however the existence of the systerm prove the importance of it!
